Swam about 24 minutes then jumped out and did my fake transition shuffle: dried off, pulled on spankies and ran out to car where I laced up sneakers, donned extra layers and fired up running tracker. Took 6 minutes ! Argh.,,
RUN
- DURATION:17m
- DISTANCE:1.42 miles
- PACE:12m /Mi
- TIME:6:30 AM
Took off up the little trail--it was pitch dark and I could not see crap! Especially could not see Julia at all, and she was a little skittish about heading up this deep dark trail. Then Flavio called with a trucking situation. I stumbled slowly along the dark trail trying to perform tasks on my device without getting cranky about my run being interrupted.
Situation resolved itself and I set out running. Still could not see Julia at all! Kept turning around to try to find her. Finally hit my stride and charged up the hill. My eyes grow accustomed to the darkness enough to see the trail-- and the steep ravine right next to me. My goal was 1.5 miles, further than I've been on this trail recently. I continue to charge up and eventually hit a steep suicide hill; I'm equal to the task so I take it in baby steps and reach the top.
Suddenly, I burst into a magnificent, large clearing, way up on top of a hill with the forest all around me and the wide open sky -- still filled with stars and a perfect crescent moon. I'm overwhelmed with exhilaration, wonder, and the sweet sense that this glorious scene has been prepared, hand-crafted for me. I don't have words for this, only profound gratitude. I tarry in this marvelous moment -- until I'm jarred by the memory that I'm on a tight schedule and have been delayed twice now, one by annoyance and the other by radiance.
Time to go! I fly down the hill as fast as I can muster. My pace for 1.4 miles ends up at 12 min miles, which is awesome since I stopped twice!!
